A unique diamond watch –
the next Hublot masterpiece

Switzerland’s Hublot have made another amazing masterpiece - the One Million Dollar Big Bang watch. It seems that diamonds and gold are set together as if by magic.

The watch is the very symbol of the fusion between jewellery and watch making. The case is made from 18 carat white gold and is set with 322 baguette diamonds weighing 24.65 carats.

It has a crystal sapphire and white gold back and a white gold crown in which 12 white baguette diamonds weighing 0.8 carats have been set.

The dial is 18 carat white gold and palladium set with 129 baguette diamonds weighing 6.4 carats with diamond-polished faceted skeleton hands.

Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver says that the idea had been to make the most beautiful and unique jewellery watch where people would only see the diamonds and no other material. This is the first project that he immediately said “yes” to, without any hesitation. And it was over the phone with only hearing the concept from the product manager. He even contacted a jeweller that also said “Yes” to the idea and she would definitely buy such a watch. “So the watch was ordered on the phone and sold on the phone. All within 15 minutes. No contract, no nothing, just mutual credibility and trust. That was in my opinion the biggest asset and success of this operation.” – says Biver.

He added that every watch is made by four highly skilled craftsmen and it takes them more than 2,000 hours to make one. The company produces 3-4 pieces a year and intends making no more than 10. Each one of them will have a different dial and movement and that will make it unique.

"The Gruosi" – the gorgeous black diamond of Grisogono and Fawaz Gruosi

"The Gruosi" and "The Spirit of Grisogono" are the two largest black diamonds in the world. They are named by jewelers Grisogono and Fawaz Gruosi. Fawaz Gruosi is famous for popularization of the black diamonds in 1996. The opportunity he had to name a diamond is a rare one – it is reserved only for original buyers of a rough diamond.

"The Gruosi" is now part of this stunning necklace that features 378 white diamonds, 14.10-carats of tsavorite garnets and the center, faceted, heart-shaped 58.77-carat black diamond, set in white gold. Discovered in India in 1998, the original rough black diamond weighed shocking 300.12-carats. Mr. Gruosi and Mr. de Grisogono had planned to cut the rough diamond into an oval shape; however, the cutting process proved to be very difficult due to its fragility, a trait common to black diamonds. The pair decided to proceed in a direction with their black diamond choosing a heart shape. The now heart-shaped black diamond of "The Gruosi" is less 184.78 carats. Mr. de Grisogono had the honors of cutting of "The Gruosi" black diamond which took a patience-building three years to complete.

Aquamarine - The Lovely March Birthstone

For those who were born in the month of March the Aquamarine is the traditional birthstone. The March birthstone poem reflects some of the properties with which the Aquamarine is associated - faithfulness, courage and friendship.

Derived from the Roman word "Aqua," meaning water, and "mare," meaning sea, this pale blue gem does indeed resemble the color of seawater. The association with water led to the belief that the Aquamarine was particularly powerful when immersed. Water in which this gemstone had been submerged was used in ancient times to heal a variety of illnesses of the heart, liver, stomach, mouth and throat. Aquamarines were also used to reverse poisoning and to aid in fortune telling.

A gift of Aquamarine symbolizes both safety and security, especially within long standing relationships. Some people even say that the Aquamarine reawakens love in a tired marriage.

"By her who is this month was born
No gem save Aquamarines shall be worn
they will ensure her constancy
True friendship and fidelity."

£ 10 mln Stolen from an Italian jeweller while hosting Oscars party

The showroom of a famous Italian jeweller was broken into; the thieves stole items for up to £10 mln while the owners were hosting a party celebrating the Oscars. The robbery was compared with the “perfect” robberies in films like Ocean’s Eleven and The Italian Job.

The gang had spent more than a month digging a tunnel from a disused cellar in an adjoining building. Police said that the drilling had been heard for weeks but was presumed to be part of continuing building works next door. The four thieves, dressed in balaclavas, sunglasses and fake uniforms of the Guardia di Finanza, used an internal staircase to reach the first floor, thus avoiding alarms and video surveillance cameras.

The reason the showroom had been opened was a private viewing from wealthy customers and there were only five employees there, including a cleaning lady and a member of the catering staff, as well as the manager. The thieves overpowered the staff, tied them up, sealed their mouths with tape and locked them in the washroom. Then they made their way to the jewellery and left the way they had come in the first place.

Damiani, founded in 1924 and known as the jeweller to the stars, is run by Guido, Giorgio and Silvia Damiani, the third generation of the family. The firm has won the Diamonds International Award 18 times, and its customers have included Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow. It supplied the diamond-studded bracelet worn by Tilda Swinton at the Oscars ceremony.

Staff at Damiani said that the leader of the gang had a “southern Italian” accent. The stolen pieces of diamond-studded gold jewellery included necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. Damiani said that the total loss would not be known until an inventory had been completed, but that all the jewellery in the store was insured.

Rumours has it that Naomi Campbell secretly got engaged to a Brazilian businessman

The supermodel has completely fallen for wealthy Marcus Elias and has been flashing the giant diamond ring he bought her.

They just met a few weeks ago at a party for fashion mag Vogue in Sao Paolo, after Naomi arrived in South America for the Bahia Carnival celebrations.

Marcus, 49, arrived with stunning local actress and model Ildi Silva, 24. But he ended the evening with Naomi, 37.

Although they were seen on a holiday trip and a few parties together, Marcus, owner of Latin America Equity Partners, remained tight-lipped about his relationship with Naomi.
